What Now?

I'm totally numb, and exhausted. The elation I feel at Obama's historic win is countered in equal measure by the outlook for Prop 8. 10% of the polls are in and it's winning 54% to 46%.

What now? I don't know. I really don't.

It was encouraging to hear Obama specifically include gays in his speech. I wish he'd come out publicly against Prop 8 much earlier in the campaign.

Going to bed. Numb and exhausted.

Tomorrow, day 2 of Jury Duty.

Hey gays - you can't get married, but you're OK to sit on a Jury and judge the innocence or guilt of a member of your community. Sigh.

6:00 a.m. UPDATE: 92% of votes are in and it's 52% to 48%.  We're down by about 360,000 votes.

I'm sick to my stomach, I can't stop crying, I feel hated, defeated, I feel like a 2nd class citizen and I want to beat the shit out of the neighbors down the street who have YES signs in their yard!! I need to make sure I don't take a couple of shots of Patron today because then I just might forget I'm the better person and go down the street and do it! What's next my right to VOTE!

But that said, I'M SOOOOO DARN PROUD THAT OBAMA WILL BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT!! It would be so much worse if the YES passed and McCain won! I know I would have gone off the deep end then.

As the resident of a state that passed its own Prop 8 years ago, I feel your pain. Wait. I don't really, because I'm straight and legally married. Can't imagine how you must feel. I just don't understand the unreasoned fear behind the vote to diminish another's rights.
